I'm Suffering from the Blog Blahs

I felt it creeping up on me a few days ago. This overall blase, blah-blah feeling. All of a sudden, my blog feels like a humongous chore, another task to be accomplished in the course of my day. Taking pictures with my camera seems extremely cumbersome, and just too much work. Visiting other blogs? They look like impossible mountains to climb . My mojo seems to have left for summer vacation.

So it's official - I have the blog blahs.

I'm not sure if it's the heat (temps have been hovering around 100 for several days) or if it's just me and maybe a few midlife hormones (or lack thereof) thrown in for good measure.... but I fear I need a blog break. I've seen this happen to other people in blog land, but I ENJOY blogging, so how could this happen to me?! Oh, the brain drain. Any remotely creative thoughts I may have had seem to be sucked away by some unseen force.

In the meantime, if y'all see my mojo while you're out and about, can you tell it to come back home?!

  1. I think we all feel this way from time to time. Everyone needs a break once in awhile. I hope you don't take too long of a break, I would miss your blog. I certainly understand though. Sometimes I have a difficult time thinking of things to blog about, I mean my life is just not that interesting! As much as I do enjoy blogging, sometimes days will go by because I just don't know what to talk about and even though it is a blog about a goat farm, sometimes I wonder just how many goat posts and pictures people can take. LOL. So I try to think of something else and meanwhile housework and farm work is piling up and being ignored. There just isn't enough time in the day! Just wanted to let you know I know how you feel. I am sure the weather doesn't help, geez it has been hot for June! I was worried when we had such a mild winter that it would be a hot summer!

  2. Go pet the horses! You will feel much better and inspiration might hit! Sometimes I can't think of anything so write about either. I started this blog about just taking pictures and now it has turned into a Gilly and Pokey, mostly Gilly, blog! LOL
It'll come back to you! :-)

  3. Hi Jennifer - no, I don't think I will disappear for long. Maybe just another day or so is all I need.

And what are you talkin' about? We love your goats! :)

  4. And Jane... it's way to hot to go pet the horses! I melt everytime I go outside. I have things to blog about (actually, I have a list I need to get posted), I just don't feel like blogging!

    I just need a rest...

  5. Oh, I hear ya on the hot weather. It's in the 80's here but very humid, ugh! I was going to ride this morning but it rained, adding more to the humidity and it just got worse as the day went on. Gilly and Pokey staying in the barn in front of the fan. Yes, I have a fan for the boys, they are a teenie bit spoiled! LOL
When the weather is hot and humid I feel like doing not a thing!
Rest up, blow kisses to the horses from the house! :-)

  6. Sweetie - we all get the blog blahs - a few of us just got over the slug bug - so you're not alone. Think of your favorite things and you'll get some new inspiration soon. We will be here waiting patiently (okay, sort of patiently). Hugs!

  7. Lol, Susan, maybe that's what's been wrong with me lately! Take care of the animals and go burn your Volano candle! Come back soon!

  8. Personally, I never set out to blog on a regular basis, so I don't make myself crazy with pressure to write.

Don't worry about your blog. Go away for a couple of days and come back with lots of stuff to say...we'll all be here waiting!

  9. I like to take days off from mine too...didnt post anything today because I truly have not much going on worth blogging about! It also gives me a chance to mellow out and clear my head.

  10. Suz, take a sabbatical like I just have, it's made all the difference and all my readers are still there now.

Thanks for the Brad Paisley track, cheered me up after my sadness about MJ tonight.

  11. Susan its ok to take a break.I started out with the mind to do it all the time but some how it didn't happen. I think no one is very interested in the things going on here. Its hard to talk about my life I think it was my up bringing so every will have to bear with me on that one. I really admire you for being able to do it and I enjoy reading the things you write but we all run out of steam, heck all the steam is outside there, girl. No wonder you got the blahs!

  12. Take a break. It happens to all of us and I'm sort of dealing with similar except I've got plenty to say and no time to put it in print.

So excited you got your job!! Woot!

  13. We are thinking along the same lines here! Sometimes it all gets a bit much and you realise you are spending an inordinate amount of time at the computer.
I try getting up early before work to get a head start on commenting but realise this is just ridiculous!
The summer is here and there will be a natural break anyway.
We look forward to hearing from you whenever you feel like it.
    No pressure!!!
    love

  15. Nice blog I know the feeling I couldn't blog without some breaks especially in the summer I see you are in Oz land so you've got kind of winter If you ever get winter there

  16. Mari - Nope,I promise I won't be gone long, hopefully it's only a 24 hour bug. :)

Cronie - I always tend to run behind the pack, so behind everything.... doesn't surprise me I got the slug bug after everyone else!

Lin - My volcano candle! I forgot all about that, and it's sitting right here on my computer desk. Good idea!

Betty L - That's a good strategy; I certainly don't blog every day, but I do try to blog at least 3-4 times a week? Maybe still too much?

Shortmama - I like the "mellow out and clear my head" part. That's what I need.

Sarah - I feel better already, just from NOT blogging for a day or so. I was wondering whether I should do a post about MJ, but decided to leave it up to other. I'm sure there will be a ton of MJ posts. :-( A piece of our childhood, gone. We all grew up with Michael.

Demainca - You are right about that! There is just too much heat outdoors right now, I think it's zapping my energy levels.

Midlife Slices - I don't know how you guys do it with a full-time job. Just the thought of starting a full-time job on July 8 makes me cringe at what might happen to my blog!!

Martha & Bailey - Thanks so much, Trixie & Tori have reminded me to spend more time with them instead of sitting at my computer. :) Maybe if the temps ever come down to the low 90s (hahahahaha) we'll go to a park or something. With trees.

Secret Mom - And I can understand that. Summer is the season to spend outdoors. And I will, when the temps decided to moderate from 100 degrees. :)

Marja - Actually I live in the American version of Oz Land - Kansas; it's where Dorothy and Toto were from in the story "The Wizard of Oz". Oh to be from down under, and have that lovely accent. :)

  17. Will miss you, but it's totally understanding. I sometimes read my blogs and sometimes not, just not in the mood lately either. Then life steps in the way. I'm VERY slowly attempting to get back to it. Have a restful break and a peaceful summer, my friend!

  18. Oh no, not the blog blahs! It happens, don't worry about it. Just blog if you feel like it and leave it at that! I'm getting ready to take a bit of a break myself, I have been a blogging fool this week while I've been cooped up with my recovering kitties, but I have lots to accomplish while I'm on my summer break, need to get off my butt, on a roll and moving soon!

  20. Yipes, blogger is having issues today. or is it me? anyway. you can't disappear. I just found your blog today and it's fabulous. I do identify with the blah blah blog feeling right now however. Feelin' it too somewhat. I'll be back! -Tammy

  21. Don't worry, we'll all be here when you get back. What you need is An Experience! (Capital A, Capital E!)

Hang a map up on the wall and throw a dart at it. Keep throwing it until you hit a place you've never been before. Pack the cooler full of drinks and snacks and head out! Be sure to take a "soundtrack" with you and pretend you're doing a movie montage. I do this and call it "Montage Therapy". It's awesome!

Do all this and report back later. I guarantee this to work or I'll pay back every penny I charged you for the unsolicited advice. :)

You could also try waymarking for an interesting way to create an adventure.

  22. Sorry about the blog blahs ... sometimes they sneak up and grab you! But, I liked Wendy's suggestion. Sounds like it would work to me!

  23. I read a book on blogging soon after I started doing it. It emphasised that blogging is a commitment and said not to do it if we didn't want that (time) commitment. Maybe one blog is enough work so keep the one you prefer. Another tip is that when you ARE in the mood write a few drafts then when you dry up you can use one of your reserves. But if its a chore - you shouldn't do it. I'm not sure that 'resting' is the answer.

  24. It happens. I have felt a little bit of it lately too. But I think it's mostly because there's so much going on in my life -- including a novel, and since I work at a computer all day, I'm sick of a computer screen, and when I get home I don't even want to look at a screen, yet here I am.

    SOrry, I'm very rambly lately.
