A Vintage Alternative to Bedbugs

Many of you are aware of my bedbug horror story. If you haven't read about my adventures with bedbugs, click here.

Now I'd like to let y'all in on a lil secret.... a certain blogger friend of mine renovates tiny, older, cute lil trailers and I'm here to tell ya, these adorable lil vintage trailers would certainly be the best preventive against a bedbug situation!  I would love to buy one of these cute lil trailers someday... that way, I can BMOB when I travel...  bring my own bed!!

Here's a '73 10-foot Bell trailer, which sold on Ebay for $4900.  Sheryl's objective when gutting her trailers is to have a place to make the coffee when it's raining outside, a full-time permanent bed (no taking the table down!) and LOTS of storage. No running water (so have some bottled water on hand) or bathroom... these trailers have the basics, baby!

Before pics...

Here's that same trailer after Sheryl and her hubby have worked their magic ....

Can you just get over how danged cute this lil trailer is?!  I adore it.  What I really love is that Sheryl and her husband are breathing new life into something old.  Instead of adding to our landfill heaps, this trailer is now living a wonderful and productive second life.

If you're interested in learning more about Sheryl's growing enterprise, please head on over to her blog, Ain't for City Gals.  Send her a message and let her know you'd like to know more about her wonderful trailers.

  2. Oh Susan...I am so happy with this post...thank you so much. Though I don't have any trailers for sale right now I can just see you with one loaded up with your home made doggie treats and wonderful cookies at a county fair, your local feed store or flea market!! You know how the Shasta has the "wings" I'm thinking for you the shape of a dog bone or sunflower....thanks again!

  4. Oh how cute! And the KOA and McDonald's have the toilet, who needs one in such tight quarters anyway. We used to travel in a motor home and you use the shower at the campgrounds any way just to keep from cleaning up the motorhome. I would love to have a vintage AirStream trailer myself to fix up (or a new one). I am terrified about bedbugs and now that I read your blog awhile back, it is worse! LOL

  6. I have wanted a "Bowler?" for years. I told my husband that we would paint it periwinkle blue. Of course he then said.... well you understand.

I have always wondered why these little trailers couldn't be done up in something other than "country plaid".

What a great idea, I am thinking French Country distressed whites....

  8. We had an overhead camper when we moved to Georgia from Colorado, and then parked it in the pine grove and never used it again after we sold the big truck. But I would go out and sit in it with my cup of coffee, and watch birds and squirrels out the window. It was my little private getaway spot.

And it wouldn't be any trouble to put one of those camping toilets in it.

  15. This is so cool! And it's not so big you would feel uncomfortable pulling it along behind your car. My problem, though, would be lack of said toilet...I'm weird about using campground potties! :)

  16. We have a pop-up camper, but it takes us 30 minutes to get it all set up. I'd love to have one of those old vintage campers to just park and enjoy at any campsite anywhere.

If I had one...this is what I'd be doing...and who I'd be doing it with:

Check out those amazing vintage campers all souped up!
"You are encouraged to join us on one of our trips and let yourselves be spoiled rotten PLUS learn to fish, learn to be a real Western Cowgirl, run rivers, go on adventures that are just pure highway traveling fun. The best part is gathering new sisters you didn't know you had. We range in age from 88 to 21 with most in between.

While driving around the country, it became more comfortable and easier to drag or own bedroom with us. Hence came the COWGIRL CARAVAN. We have vintage trailers that we take on Caravan trips around the country. They are from the 1950's to now and they are about 12 ft. to 24 ft. in length. The trailer makes vary: Holiday, Shasta, Aljoa, Scotsman, Aloha, Fireball and even an Airstream thrown in for good measure to name a few.

There is no “good” one, just “great” ones. Each trailer reflects its owner’s personality with its theme and sister number proudly posted on the rear of the trailer. They are decorated inside and out in usually a western kitschy theme. “There is a little Cowgirl in all of us”. After a hard day of driving and having fun it is pure bliss to fall into your own feather bed at the close of the day. Awake to the smell of coffee and bacon right outside your door."

Now doesn't that just sound perfect??!!

  18. I have a tiny trailer too. My dad found for me and we restored last summer. Getting ready to take her on her maiden voyage next weekend. Then last weekend I returned to favor for my dad and found him one where I live. He will be coming down this weekend to pick it up and take it home to start the restoration process again!! Check them both out on my blog if you like

  20. I love the counter and stools . . . and all the cupboard space is fantastic. What a fabulous, satisfying enterprise. You know, folks, we just might all be needing one of these for day-to-day living if the economy keeps going the way it is and taxes keep getting higher!

I had a friend whose parents sold all their property and divvied up the inheritance to the three girls . . . and then bought a Suburban and an Avion and traveled to visit each daughter for the next 25 years. They had a trailer lot in TX where they spent winters, and traveled the rest of the year . . . A homey little trailer such as Sheryl's would be just right for me! Can you do a LQ horse trailer?? ;)
